The journey to health can be a long one, and sometimes arduous. But, believe me, it’s oh so worth it! When we are overcoming health issues or working on attaining healthy balance in our lives, it is important to remember that there will be both ups and downs. You will see progress along the way, but know that there will be days where you feel like you are moving backward. The good news is that this is totally normal!
Whatever your reasons for starting your journey, remind yourself that it took some time to get you to the point where you realized you were off track to begin with. For some, it may have only been a short detour. But for a lot of us, we followed that errant path for quite a while before we knew we needed to make a change. And if that’s the case for you, your path to get back on track may take you a little longer. Spending years, or decades, making choices that weren’t right for your bodies will take some undoing.
But this isn’t a post about negativity. This is a post about patience.
We’ve been trained to want what we want overnight, but that’s just not the case. We build our lives one step at a time. Every choice we make leads to an unfolding of even more choices. It’s an intricate and beautiful thing. I like to think of it as bricks. Each choice lays down one more brick. And each choice sets the path in it’s own unique way, it’s own coloring, it’s own pattern. And if you are here reading this, then you are already on your path back to good health.
There are many ways to get there, and they will be unique just as we are unique. What works for one may not work for the other, and that’s ok. That’s actually better than ok, it’s perfect! Because we are all so individual and beautiful in and of ourselves, our choices and journeys are as well. So no matter where you are in your personal journey, take a minute and think about why you want this. It’s easy to say weight loss, or improved digestion, and those are certainly excellent motivations. But often, it’s more. It’s deeper. Often, we want to feel whole and well, and we know that if our bodies are off, so are our hearts, or our minds.
Set your intentions. Carefully think about how you feel when you are in good health. Write your intentions down, and see them as goals. Envision yourself at the end of this journey, and how that makes you feel. Knowing why you want what you want gives you more impetus to reach it. You have this power in you, you can and you will reach your goals. With perseverance and strength, you will find the dedication and energy you need to make these hopes more than wants and wishes. The journey to health is a journey, complete with detours, unexpected adventures, and sometimes hills to climb. But that’s the beauty of it all, and we always glean something important from each and every one of the twists and turns we encounter. So, choose your goals, and then choose your path to reach them. You will get there, one brick at a time.
